Declining student enrollment, teacher retention and the high cost and scarcity of affordable housing in Ventura County, along with new state legislation, are creating new opportunities for California school districts to build workforce housing on their properties.
At a Feb. 29 symposium, titled “A Home for Education,” held at CSU Channel Islands, a sold-out crowd of decision makers in education, government, land-use planning, and affordable housing development gathered to learn more. OUSD Trustees Phil Moncharsh, Kathy Smith, Blair Braney, Atticus Reyes and Superintendent Sherrill Knox all attended.
