Housing Trust Fund Ventura County (Housing Trust Fund VC) announced that its 6th Annual Compassion Campaign will feature two guest speakers Dr. John Nunes, President of California Lutheran University and Giorgio Angelini, Director of OWNED: A Tale of Two Americas. Angelini is currently developing a documentary adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning book Evicted, produced by actor Chris Pine. The event will be held at Walnut Grove at Tierra Rejada Farms in Moorpark on September 4th, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. For tickets and sponsorship opportunities CLICK HERE. This year’s Compassion Campaign theme, “RAISE THE ROOF” invites guests to discuss leveraging funds to maximize impact and stand together to create affordable homes in Ventura County. Guests will enjoy music and dinner, as well as exciting activities. Guests will also take part in our friendly “Build a Home” decorating competition by voting for the first Paint It Forward award recipient. Sponsored and creatively decorated by our event partners, these libraries will later be placed in communities supported by Housing Trust Fund VC. This event will feature a conversation with Giorgio Angelini and Dr. John Nunes to discuss the multi-faceted need for affordable housing and how they were each called to drive change in their communities. Angelini is an award-winning filmmaker and architectural designer whose work explores the intersections of culture, identity, and the built environment. He made his directorial debut with OWNED: A Tale of Two Americas, a documentary about the racially charged history of U.S. housing policy. Angelini will share his insights and early details about his upcoming documentary, Evicted, based on the Pulitzer-Prize winning nonfiction book Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City by Matthew Desmond. Dr. John Nunes is the ninth president of California Lutheran University and a renowned educator and theologian. He has served in leadership roles such as president and CEO of Lutheran World Relief and held an endowed professorship at Valparaiso University and is the author of several books exploring faith, culture, and social justice. Joining them will be a current Ventura County resident, whose lived experience with affordable housing will ground the discussion in the real-life impact and urgency of the housing crisis. “We’re proud to bring our community together for the sixth annual Compassion Campaign, a night to celebrate progress and deepen our commitment,” said Linda Braunschweiger, CEO of Housing Trust Fund Ventura County and Housing Land Trust Ventura County. “Housing affordability is one of the most pressing challenges facing Ventura County. This event is about raising our collective voice, building partnerships, and taking bold steps to ensure everyone has a home.
Compassion Campaign 2025 is made possible in part by the generous support of City National Bank, City of Ventura, Community West Bank, McCarthy Companies, Mission Bank, Montecito Bank and Trust, and USA HOPE.
